Yesterday was one of those days you really can only describe as epic fun. Mark, Dave and I started out early heading up to Santa Fe for the first annual Bike Santa Fe Bike Swap. The swap was slim and there wasn't a whole lot but we all scored something. Clemente was hooking it up and Mark bought a Fox Fork and I scored an XTR rear derailer, Dura-Ace front and an Ultegra rear. Dave's score wasn't from the bike swap itself, but he linked up with Kale from Rob and Charlie's next door and bought a vintage Campy Record track wheelset. After that, we had a delicious New Mexican breakfast at The Pantry before we checked out the local Santa Fe bike shops.
Our first shop stop was The Broken Spoke, a small shop that sells mostly new Bianchi, Jamis, Orbea, KHS, and Manhatten bicycles with some used stuff out front. We didn't buy anything but the guy working was cool and friendly. After that we hit up Mellow Velo, where we chatted up Dave the owner and ended up buying the sickest Terry Dolan cylco-cross bike for a friend I've been shopping for. He wanted a flat bar cyclo-cross and we found the perfect fit with this custom build. Big 40c tires, Sram Rival group with XO grip shift, and cantilever brakes. The ergo grips make it a super comfortable ride that I wanted to keep for myself but I was glad find such a great bike for our friend Mike. Mellow Vello is the coolest bike shop I've been to around these parts. Super friendly people with some freaking cool bikes. Ciocc, Legnano, Tommasini, Olmo, and more I can't even remember right now. They also have great cycling gear and custom t-shirts.
