This project started as an ugly 2007 Redline Conquest Pro cyclocross frame I bought on eBay for $150 with shipping. I was mostly interested in it because it was disc brake compatible, but it also had canti mounts and one cable STI braze on which seemed really weird to me. That extra crap really made the frame look like shit, not to mention the terrible paint job. At any rate, the grinder came out and after hacking that stuff off I was left with a pretty decent looking aluminum cyclocross disc brake frame. I spray painted it and buffed the paint flat with a scouring pad and even chipped it up a bit on the top tube to expose a little of the original paint job. I know the paint won't hold up to well, but I'm planning on using this bike as my commuter and don't mind if it gets dinged up.
I was going for some sort of skinny tire 29er thing so I built the bike up with mountain bike components. It has 1x7 gearing with an XTR derailleur and a vintage XT thumbshifter. I've been riding it for a week now and love it. This bike is perfect for riding around Albuquerque. The 35c tires can handle all the stickers, glass, potholes, and gravel you throw at it, plus you can fly off a curb and right on to the single track for an off road mosh.
